The Value of Kitting: One Part Number. Less Hassle.

If you're building skids or fluid system assemblies on a regular basis, you already know how much time gets spent just managing parts. Tracking down individual components, writing purchase orders for a dozen line items, sending someone across the shop floor to gather fittings from three different cabinets. It adds up fast, and none of it is what your team is actually there to do.

That's where kitting comes in, and it's one of the more practical things we can offer to customers and shops with repeatable builds.

What is a kit, exactly?

A kit is a single part number that represents a collection of the Swagelok components needed for a specific assembly or project. It could cover an entire skid, a gauge root valve assembly, a regulator assembly, a set of CNC pre-bent tube pieces, or any sub-assembly you build on a regular basis.

Inside that one part number, you might find fittings, pre-taped threaded ends, valves, regulators, and CNC bent tubing with fittings already pre-swaged on the ends. We put it together, box it up, and you order it as one line item.

Where it actually saves you time

The savings show up at every stage of a project, not just one.

At the engineering and project management level, your team stops copying and pasting 15 part numbers every time they spec a recurring assembly. It becomes one line item. That's faster to document, easier to communicate, and less prone to a missed component.

At purchasing, the same logic applies. Instead of cutting a PO with multiple line items and tracking each one, you're ordering a single kit. Repeat orders become routine rather than a research exercise.

On the shop floor, the kit arrives and goes directly to the area where it's needed, or one kit lands on each skid in queue. Your team isn't making trips back to the supply room or hunting down a fitting that somehow ran out. Everything for that assembly is together.

Standardization you can actually rely on

One of the quieter benefits of kitting is what it does for standardization. When your assembly process is built around a consistent set of components packaged the same way every time, variation tends to disappear. Your builds look the same. Your team learns the kit. New people can get up to speed faster.

Those same kits can also serve as field service parts kits when the time comes, so you're not building a separate system to support what's already in the field.

Inventory that's easier to manage

Fewer loose parts scattered across shelves means fewer opportunities for things to get lost, miscounted, or forgotten at reorder time. Kits are easier to identify, easier to store, and easier to account for. If your shop has ever dealt with the slow drain of missing or misplaced components on an active build, you'll recognize the value here quickly.

Is kitting right for your operation?

If you have builds that happen more than once, whether that's two units a year or two hundred, kitting is worth a conversation. We work through the component list with you, confirm what makes sense to package together, and set up the kit so repeat ordering is as straightforward as possible.
